boogie

I have bought a book over the weekend; it’s been a while since I’ve gotten myself something. I am pretty sure that most people are illiterate and some of them do find pleasure in reading. It’s because the perception is still that you’re consciously transmitting the idea that if you have bought a lot of books, you’re trying to say, “Hey look at me and how many books I’ve bought! Boy I must be really smart, don’t mess around with me.” Maybe it’s the Malaysian mentality, but I have come across this a lot of times, ever since my schooling days. To be reading in school would deem you a nerd and a bookworm. This is when being hip and cool is the thing to do, so you do avoid reading in school, that and it kind of irks the underachievers as well. Do I hear the current fad of being beaten up in school by a bully? I’ll touch on this a little later, that and the current crackdown on truancy.

Okay so, over the weekend there was a warehouse sale on books. The prices were really good by the way, but before reaching the place I overheard this person trying to sound really smart or something or rather. He was exclaiming to the two women who was with him, that the people exiting the place with bags of books was being pompous. In his exact words, “all those people are trying to look intelligent, look at them all buying books just for the sake of that.” I was stupefied at this remark. Goodness me, he is joining our ranks if he walks out of the place with more than two books in his hand. Oh, but wait he could rise above all of us, and stump us by not buying a single book! All I can say is this is classic foot in mouth disease, to look cool, and yet attract attention for the wrong reasons.

Reading ‘Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance’, I must say that so far the book has been really interesting. It’s like light bulb moments every two pages. When I finish the book, I’ll comment if it’s all that. Hype I mean. I will talk about the education system and my thoughts on that another time. Oh previously the girl that was to be investigated by the police for having malicious intents went dumping her newborn in the toilet has not been charged by them. It’s great news for me, and the system in this country. I suppose, sometimes the best interest to another human being is more important, let us not forget that. Seems like an interesting topic to talk about the pro-abortion march recently in Washington. Yeah, the next one.
