the day after tomorrow

Right, I’ve been going on a media frenzy drive to promote the day after tomorrows’ official worldwide release. The reason is because I couldn’t help myself with that very tagline of, “Where are you going to be, the day after tomorrow?” and the reason for all this is because it’s going to be my grand 25th birthday! Heh. That is a quarter century, and it has put me into this contemplative reflective mood.
Sigh.
No world peace in sight, people’s common sense is still lacking (well sometimes I wonder, what goes through people’s mind when doing silly things everyday) and I am feeling the effects of age (I have a chronic back injury that bothers me to the high heavens). Not going to dwell on the details this time round, it’s my first post in awhile and I don’t want to rant. Read somewhere that having personal blogs and such is actually a personal ego boost, and it rather makes sense cos I couldn’t even read my friend’s entry without feeling… that I couldn’t care less. Haha. Evil prevails!

A brief run through of stuff that I watched, Troy for me was excellent. The casting was brilliant, well Brad Pitt is… Brad Pitt. Er, I’ll get back to this on whether it’s a good thing or not. After contemplation, I think it’s acceptable. Well he is likeable in some movies, and when some of his acting was found wanting early on, you kind of never dwell on that fact just due to the fact that he is pretty. Se7en is still the movie. Right, but this movie belongs to Brian Cox, Eric Bana and Peter ‘Mr. Lawrence of Arabia’ O’Toole. Ooh, the movie is worth the price of admission just watching this actors go at their characters. That and the tent scene involving King Priam (Toole) and Achilles (Pitt), thinking back on it still blows me away. Its brilliant… trust me.

Second movie, would be Shrek 2. The early reviews was mixed with one reported it to bomb because it was ‘inferior’ to the first chapter. Other reviews rave about it, and it going to win the Palme d’Or at Cannes. My two cents on it, is that it was an excellent watch. I view it independently from the first movie, and it was immensely entertaining. That is all movies are about, no? My friend was peeved off at the audiences in the theatre, because he said the crowd just laughed and laughed, whether it was a funny scene or not. That and they looked out for the trailer bits and still chomped them down with glee. I must admit that I was guilty of this as well, not that I didn’t know what was to happen based on the trailer, its just that a movie should be enjoyed fully, irrespective of the giveaways from the trailer bits. That and the crowd laughing at everything, it’s just that the movie is about story-tales and fantasy; it’s nice to point out at all of this facts. And it was funny. Don’t subject yourself to be of more knowledge, or of refinement compared to others. Bitching on these facts will not gain sympathy from me, I enjoy movies for its entertainment values above the acting and movie plots most of the times.

One of my favorite movies of all time is this B-grade movie called the ‘Barbarian Brothers’. It was just plain silly, with the worst kind of acting to be seen. It was a simple plot, and it made me laughed like crazy. So try to judge movies based on that very simple notion, you’ll find that you tend to be less critical and analytical about your cinematic experiences.

Next on my list is the day after tomorrow, I just love disaster movies because it always shows the human spirit triumphing against the odds. That and when the threat of imminent danger always pull people together in a show of brotherhood, and then we can finally say we are brothers irregardless of sex, religion, race and political affinities. Yeah this only happens in disaster movies, it’ll be too radical to happen in real life without a disaster banding us together.

Again, enjoy it as they come.
